Animatic

By creating the animatic on the IMac enabled my group and I to get a feel for how the film is going to look at the end product before having filmed it. The animatic helped to show shots that were being used such as eye line match, shot-reverse-shot, match on action and many more. This helped us as by putting this as video gave us a clear indication of how long the film is going to last and what shots are going to follow after one and other, from this we found that our film wasn't quite long enough at first and had to add in shots. We did this by adding a jump back to the past tense, this worked really well as we were able to show the audience what childhood this mysterious protagonist had and giving them an understand of why he is the way he is shown presently in the film.

Along with this we also found that some shots worked better in other places, meaning that the animatic helped sufficiently with the creation of our film as it helped us get a clear indication of how things were going to look at the final product. In addition it also helped us to realise things of which we wouldn’t have been able to if we didn’t put this in a video clip form, leaving the animatic being a very worth while production.

Text Tutorial

For the credits being used on our film we used text tutorials to help us create an effect of which would fit in with the genre and setting of our film. We done thgs on a programe called 'after effects' and used an effect called light sweep.

A possitive of this was that we was able to choose a font of which reflected the title, as I liked the way it looked like a jack in the box and had a fair-ground feel to it. Along with this I thought the fort choosen was good because it added a sense of mystery to the text used, which then fitted in with our genre; being a thriller.

I feel that a negative of this was that the light sweep effect used over the text. This is because it was very quick and made the text very hard to read as it only had a quick light sweep upon it. Altogether making  it unclear for an audience to read.

Soundtrack

For our film we wanted to get the best soundtrack that would fit perfectly with both the title and genre of our film, with the title being 'Jack in the Box' and having a thriller genre.  To do this we want to used a sound which captured several elements; weirdness, childlike feeling along with sense of mystery. To fit the sound with the genre we wanted to obtain a more sinister and tension absorbing sound which would create the audience to not only know and understand the thriller genre but also to a certain extent feel it.

To find the music we used a website called Incompetech, there we were able to find two tracks which as a group we felt would fit our film perfectly and enhance the thriller genre to a greater extent.
·        For the thrilling sound we wanted to capture we chose a sound called ‘The House Of Leaves’ which is outlined on the website as ‘A simple harp refrain plays a child’s melody, but is torn apart by discordant screeching noises, thumps, growls, and mechanical noises.’
·        For the mysterious childlike feeling we wanted to capture during the flashback, we choose a sound called ‘Pop Goes The Weasel’ which is described on the website as ‘Heavy bass drums and an string bass set the tone for this dark and menacing tone. The familiar refrain then plays, but is made expressive and almost violent as it is played on several string basses and cellos. The pace is rather quick and forceful, and after the quick ending, a jack-in-the-box plays, normally child-like, but made creepy because of the sinister music that came before.’

Film Ident

To create the Ident to our film, we used a programme called 'after effects.'  We wanted to make something of which would look original and stand out to the audience. For this we had to record one and other lifting up our head, which we would use as the letters to create movement to our Ident. I thought that this was a very good idea and had a positive effect on our film, as it make it look more professional. This is because I had not seen anything like this on an opening of a film, and made our film a lot more unique in certain ways.

The one thing that I would change if we had the chance is the white background of which has been used, as although it makes it stand out feel that a more darker background would have fitter our film genre a lot better, with it being a Thriller.

Research

For the creation of our film we had to find out many different ways in which you are able to create a fizzy reaction with things of which are not harmful, and are easy to get. For this we used the internet and found a suitable reaction that can be used in our film. Here is  a link to the page below..
